The Winners of the 2010 NCA District Fair Scholarships are Alexandra Whitten of Highland High School (Sharp County) and Matt Loggains of Melbourne High School (Izard County).

Alexandra has participated in the Sharp County Fair and the North Central Arkansas District Fair for the past six years and in the Arkansas State Fair for the last five years. She has exhibited in both the livestock and creative arts departments and has devoted many hours of community service to her county fair. She is a member of the Ruff Riders
4-H Club.

Matt has participated in the Izard County Fair and the NCA District Fair for the past 10 years and in the Arkansas State Fair for the last five years. He shows Charolais cattle and has assisted in setting up the Creative Arts department at his county fair and has made a presentation on showing at fairs for the past three years for the Melbourne kindergarten students. He is a member of the Melbourne FFA Chapter.

Alexandra and Matt are both excellent role models for the younger fair exhibitors in the district. The NCA District Fair boards of directors are proud to award these two deserving young people with scholarships.

CRITERIA:


Applicants must be a graduating senior from the six-county NCA District Fair area (Cleburne, Fulton, Izard, Sharp, Stone, and Van Buren counties) planning to enroll in an institute of higher education (Community College, University, Technical or Trade College) in the fall AND pursue at least a two year course of study.

SELECTION IS BASED ON:

  1. Degree of involvement in county, district, and state fairs. Applicants must participate in at least three of five areas of the fairs. The areas are: (1) Creative Arts (Home), (2) Livestock, (3) Youth Talent, (4) Beauty Pageant, and (5) Community Service to the Fair.

  3. Community involvement
  4. School activities and academics

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS MARCH 1, 2011

The application will be available in January, 2011.
